Igarashi Sensei Seminar – 2010/02/14 – Sunday
2010
We started the third day by reviewing the ki-no-nagare exercises from the past two days. Sensei talked about using the opposite muscle if you get stuck in a technique. Again: lift your arm while focusing on the pinky finger; lower your arm while focusing on your thumb.
We did tenkan and kaiten practice for several minutes. Sensei enjoyed randomly switching calls between the two faster than we could process to see how many of us ended up in the wrong hanmi. He laughed and enjoyed himself.
Back to serious, he showed us a very smooth ki-no-nagare exercise. It is a kaitennage using this sequence: kaiten, kaiten, tenkan, kaiten, kaiten and throw. (Search the journal for this ki-no-nagare exercise).
We then moved to futaridori katate-ryotedori nikyo. This was great because we hardly get to practice this outside of seminars.
We then worked on the same as above, but with shihonage waza.
Again, we did the above but with a sankyo waza. By this point, Sensei introduced the concept of a third attacker in front of you, waiting to kick you while his two friends hold you. He demonstrated that it is possible to get out of the way with a tenkan even while his both arms are being held (search the journal for this as well).
The instruction portion of the seminar concluded, and then Chris, Andrew and Todd tested for their sandan, nidan and nidan belts respectively (and got them! Congratulations to them.)
